The Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery Foundation recently held its Fourth Annual Sun Defense essay contest among elementary schools throughout the state of Florida. The purpose of the FSDDS Florida Sun Defense Essay Contest is to educate elementary school-age children and their parents about the importance of sun safety and to promote literacy.. We wish we had the ability to award a shade structure to each of schools that submitted an essay. It was hard to narrow it down to four winners!! We are proud of everyone who participated and we hope to receive more great essays next year! Congratulations to Preston Gannam from Chets Creek in Jacksonville, Aryan Patidar from Clark Elementary in Tampa, and Summerlyn Murray from Crystal Lake Elementary in Lake Mary for winning sun shades for their schools. We are looking forward to meeting the Grand Prize winner, Allison Rainey from Glenallen Elementary School in North Port, at the FSDDS 2011 Annual Meeting, May 27-30 where she will be awarded with the Grand Prize plaque and will read her winning essay.
